Year 5 have used the Jabberwocky poem by Lewis Carroll (read below) to inspire them to create their own poems using portmanteau words.
A portmanteau word is a linguistic blend of words, in which parts of multiple words or their phonemes are combined into a new word, as in smog, coined by blending smoke and fog, or motel, from motor and hotel.

The week beginning on Monday 12th November was Anti-bullying week at St Martin de Porres school.
Read below the wonderful poems written by Year 5 children:
Respect each other!
Respect makes me feel like I am in heaven. Respect makes me feel like a shining star. Respect makes me feel as happy as winning the lottery. Respect makes me feel like a fantastic super star. Respect makes me feel like the most important person in the universe. Respect makes me feel like an elegant unicorn on a rainbow. Respect makes me feel like I am the only person that you ever cared about. Respect each other every day. Falaq |
Respect each other
When you respect me I feel as happy as I am sliding down a rainbow. Respect makes me feel like I’m walking on the moon. When you respect me I feel like a child on Christmas day. Respect makes me feel as happy as a shining star. When you respect me I feel like I’m walking in the clouds. Respect makes me feel like a ray of sunshine shining in the air. When you respect me I feel like I’m riding a unicorn. Respect makes me feel like I’m in heaven. Leenah |

Respect each other,
When you respect me, I feel like a million stars glimmering in mid-air.
When you respect me, I feel like I’m with my family.
When I have been respected, I am a boy walking on the moon.
Respect makes me feel like a millionaire.
Respect each other as if we are all special.
Respect each other.
Aaron
