Dear Year 3 Parents/Guardians,
Our current topic in D&T is Bread. So far, we have looked at breads from around the world and the history of bread. In this week's lesson, I would like to complete a food tasting session in order to look at the qualities of different types of bread and compare appearance, texture and taste. In order to do this, I will need written permission as well as information regarding any allergies your child may have. The form below must completed and submitted (blue button) before Thursday 6th January.
Many Thanks
Mrs Price

Visit to Moseley Park
On Monday 19th July, Year 3 went to Moseley Park. They had a great time playing in the sunshine.

Year 3
Year 3 completed a science enquiry - Identifying and classifying rocks. We carried out a number of tests to find out the different properties each rock has, such as durability, density and permeability. They also used information sheets and fact cards to find out extra information.

Canopic Jars
The children thoroughly enjoyed designing and making their canopic jars. They practised a range of skills including moulding clay, paper mache and painting. During our evaluation discussion, we decided that next time a stronger clay would be a good idea as we unfortunately had quite a few breakages! Someone also suggested using play dough and then PVA glue to varnish- I thought this was a fantastic idea.

Thursday 4th March:
Year 3 in school made Mr Twit's beard, an activity based on The Twits, a book we read extracts from on World Book Day.

Our PTA gave our class some wood cut-outs to make some Christmas decoration. Look how lovely they are!
The children really enjoyed the food analysis session in D&T on Friday 4th December. We looked at the importance of using our senses when analysing existing products and discussed relevant vocabulary to use to describe texture, appearance and taste. The children also gave each type of bread a star rating. Favourites were the tortillas and bagels. The children were not so keen on rye bread and sourdough.
St Teresa of Avila once wrote:
Christ has no body now but yours. No hands, no feet on earth but yours. Yours are the eyes through which he looks compassion on this world. Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good. Yours are the hands through which he blesses all the world. Yours are the hands, yours are the feet, yours are the eyes, you are his body. Christ has no body now on earth but yours. On Monday 9th November, Year 3 "put their feet in the footsteps of Jesus". Look at what they have done: |
On Monday 2nd November, Year 3 went outside and pretended to be stone age men and women. They used chalk to make drawings on the walls and ground like cave men did with pigments on the walls of their caves.

Morning Year 3,
I am so sorry I uploaded yesterday's instructions again in today's folder and not today's! I am in school today so I can't add the new one now. Hopefully you will be able to complete the work without the instruction sheet. There are no live lessons today. Have a lovely day and a restful weekend. Any questions just message me on here or send one of the Year 3 staff members an email :)

Tuesday 8th September - Message from Mr Gray:
Dear Parents,
Thank you
Thank you for all the messages of support. We really appreciate your thoughtfulness especially as the self-isolation is going to have a significant impact on your families - for example, we know that for some of you, bringing siblings to school is now impossible as you have no one to look after your child in Year 3 who is self-isolating. We also know that not being able to come to school; go out to shops; attend places of worship; visit the park and nor have visitors in the home is going to be very difficult for your child.
How are we going to support your child and your family?
Every day, Mrs Laird, Mrs Banks or Mrs Price will be posting work here, on the school website. From tomorrow, at 11am, I will teach a short lesson where I take an activity and talk the children through it before answering questions. This will be done through Microsoft Teams to which all children have access through their BGfL365 login. By 10am tomorrow morning, your child will receive an invitation to join a closed group called "Year 3". We will use this as a pilot in order to develop our capacity to deliver video lessons across the school. There will undoubtedly be teething problems with technology but we will get there. You can also access some excellent lessons on the Oak National Academy Website - https://classroom.thenational.academy/subjects-by-year/year-3
As we go forward, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me.
God bless
Mr Gray

Monday 7th September - Message from Mr Gray:
Dear Year 3 Parents/ Guardians,
We have just been informed that a Year 3 child who was in school on Friday has tested positive for Covid 19. The child had no symptoms when in school, the family concerned were asked to get tested as they had had contact with a positive case. Click here for: Government Guidance-for-full-opening-schools, please see section 9.
Following Government advice (above), the year 3 class need to self-isolate for 14 days from when they last had contact with the positive case, which would have been Friday 4th September.
Household members (and siblings) of a child who is sent home do not need to self-isolate themselves unless the child who is self-isolating subsequently develops symptoms. If someone in the class that has been asked to self-isolate develops symptoms themselves within their 14-day isolation period they should follow guidance for households with possible or confirmed coronavirus (COVID-19) infection. They should get a test, and:
Testing: The latest government advice for parents is available here: What-parents-and-carers-need-to-know-about-early-years-providers-schools-and-colleges-in-the-autumn-term.
Whilst your child is self-isolating at home, please check the school website, where Mrs Laird, Mrs Price and Mrs Banks will be posting learning activities.
We are genuinely disappointed to have had to make this decision tonight, however the guidance is clear. When or if further information becomes available school will inform parents as soon as possible but we will keep in touch with everyone regularly by email.
Kind regards
Mr Gray

- if the test delivers a negative result, they must remain in isolation for the remainder of the 14-day isolation period. This is because they could still develop the coronavirus (COVID-19) within the remaining days.
- if the test result is positive, they should inform their school immediately, and should isolate for at least 10 days from the onset of their symptoms (which could mean the self-isolation ends before or after the original 14-day isolation period). Their household should self-isolate for at least 14 days from when the symptomatic person first had symptoms, following guidance for households with possible or confirmed coronavirus (COVID-19) infection.

PE
Message from Miss Haydon: Hello Year 3! Welcome to this week's PE Challenge. Well done to all of you who had a go at last week's challenge. This week I have uploaded a video of your challenge from the Chance 2 Shine cricket website which should be in your Year group folder on BGfL and will be on the school website too. Have a go at it and let me know how you found it. I will let you into a secret, I found it hard and got into a muddle and kept dropping my pair of socks I was attempting to catch. I have also uploaded an Active Challenge card appropriate for your class for you to have a go at as well - these I did manage to do ... just!!! Have you seen my April Health and Wellbeing Calendar? Check today's activity out. Anyway keep active, keep healthy and more importantly please keep safe. |
Year 3 have been looking at identifying a series of shapes within an image to support us with our sketching. We then varied the thickness of the lines to add interest and identified areas to shade.
As part of our theme work on Ancient Egypt, Year 3 children have been making beautiful portrait of the pharao Tutankhamun:
As part of our English this half-term, we have been creating our own shaped poems. Our focus was to include similes and language for effect. Here are some of our poems about a sunflower, the moon, a pizza, a rainbow and a snowman:

The week ending on 15th November was Anti-Bullying Week. In Year 3, children have written some very inspiring pieces on the theme. Well done!

On Friday 7th June, Year 3 children went to the museum of Cannock Chase for their end-of-year class trip.
The Museum of Cannock Chase tells the fascinating story of Cannock Chase, from its industrial beginnings, to its military role, famous local citizens, social history, domestic life and wildlife. It is located in Hednesford, Staffordshire.
To know more about the place, you can visit: http://www.museumofcannockchase.org/

On Sunday 10th November, Maleka had a big dance competition. Well done, Maleka!!

On Thursday 14th February in the morning, some of our parents joined their children in the hall for a workshop with Mrs Laird, Mrs Price and Mrs Banks.
Thank you all very much for coming.
Thank you all very much for coming.

Our Year 3 children led us in a beautiful prayer service on Tuesday 22nd January on the theme of Listening. It was wonderful to have a large number of our parents and families join us. We pray that we all find time in our busy lives to pray to God.
