Years 1 to 6 are again  taking part in the Walk to School scheme. To receive their badge each month, your child must do at least one active journey a month. This can be walking, scootering or cycling. If you come by bus, get off a stop earlier and walk the rest of the way. If you come by car, park a couple of streets away and walk the rest. We are aiming to increase the number of active journeys the children in school take so please support us with this.

Congratulations to Year 3 who were the April and May winners of the Walk to School Trophy. They had the most active journeys in the school last month. Remember to walk, park and stride or hop off to help your class win next month. The more children who walk all or part of the way to school, the safer our roads are and the cleaner the air is.

We’ve joined the everyday walking charity, Living Streets’ WOW, year-round walk to school challenge. If your child walks, scoots or cycles to school at least once or twice a week they’ll be rewarded with a collectible badge at the end of the month.
This year’s theme is Walk the seasons.
Living Streets has also created the WOW Walk To School app which you can use to bring the badge to life with fun games and virtual reality. The app can be downloaded from Play Store, Amazon and iTunes.
With WOW we aim to lower congestion outside the school gates, improving road safety for our pupils, and increase activity levels. If you live too far away from school to walk, you can Park and Stride and this still counts towards a WOW badge. If you’d like any more information about WOW visit www.livingstreets.org.uk/wow.
Best wishes from The WOW Team.

LIVING STREETS is the UK charity that promotes everyday walking to school.
St Martin de Porres entered their program in 2015-2016.

LIVING STREETS wants to create a walking nation, free from congested roads and pollution, reducing the risk of preventable illness and social isolation and making walking the natural choice. They believe that a walking nation means progress for everyone.
Their ambition is to get people of all generations to enjoy the benefits that this simple act brings and to ensure all our streets are fit for walking.
Progress starts here: one street, one school, one step at a time. Find out more about the walking nation.

Last year's Walk to School’ badge competition was based on seasons. Children have been given an entry form if they wished to enter the competition. The design had to depict one of the four seasons, and every entry made in school received a prize.

In 2016-2017, our school entered the annual badge design competition for WOW, the year-round walk to school challenge.
We put our pupils’ imagination to work to be in with a chance of their designs being made into WOW badges for the next year. Winners receive free WOW resources for their school for a whole year.
That year we were on the hunt for entries on the theme of Walk the Americas.
From the dramatic landscapes of Canadian national parks, through Brazilian rainforests teeming with life, down to the icy glaciers in Southern Argentina - the Americas have lots on offer.
Note that the badges are made from recycled yoghurt-pot material.

On Tuesday 14th March 2017, the three best designs were chosen to enter the competition and their authors were rewarded during the afternoon assembly with a chocolate Easter egg. Congratulations to Malaika and Is'Haaq, Year 6 and to Halima, Year 5.

We are delighted to announce that Malaika's design has been chosen among last year's over 120,000 entries. Her design appeared on November 2017's badge and she received free WOW resources for our school for a whole year.
